Mid December '88, Brian was working as an Installations Manager for a replacement UPVc double glazing company in the UK & one day he gets a call from someone called Phil Maddox, in Riyadh. Peter told me about you, I could have a position to offer if you are interested. Could be, was the cool answer, what have you got in mind. Can you fly out for an interview over the Christmas hols if a visa could be arranged? Yes, that way it won't impact on my present job. OK, I'll be in touch.
& that was the start of another adventure.
As it was, arrangements for the trip weren't finalised until the end of the first week of January, Brian flew out to Riyadh on the Friday & was back home Sunday night ready for work Monday. Just another weekend!!
The following week a confirmation phone call came, so he gave a months notice & was ready to go on the 1st March. Hic-up, no visa. Ex Suadi-ites know the routine, numerous phone calls to the Saudi Embassy & to the sponsor in Riyadh, until finally out pops the passport dully stamped on 15th March & off he goes to join Arabian Support & Services Co. (ASASCo) to run their two compounds in Riyadh.
Rose joined him after six months, then the Gulf Crisis brewed-up so she came home for an extended holiday.
